iPhone Alarm Not Working
New Year Alerts: iPhone 2011 Alarm Bug, Android Sending SMS To Wrong Contacts
In a couple of hours we will be ringing in the New Year, however tomorrow will very well bring in a few headaches for Android and iPhone owners.
iPhone alarm bug: Alarms won't ring on New Year's
Lucky for us in the USA, we are still a couple of hours from the 2011 countdown. Why? Because there are now reports from our Australian readers that their iPhone handsets failed to ring on New Year's day (January 1st). We investigated and the problems seems rampant, with other websites receiving similar reports from other parts of the world. The general consensus is that it only affects one time alarms, not recurring ones. So after you're done celebrating New Year's do change your alarm setting to Repeat just in case you get affected by this bug Monday morning.
Android phones sending SMS to wrong contacts
And before you look down at iPhone owners, Android phones are not free and clear in 2011 as well. With the New Year only 2 hours away, we are certain you have your special New Year's greetings ready to send out to all the contacts in your Android phone. Well get ready to be paranoid: Google has acknowledged that there is a bug in the Android default text messaging app which sends out SMS messages to the wrong contacts. Apparently, this issue has existed since March and Google is still working on a fix. The first sighting of the now rampant problem popped up on a Nexus One support forum back on March 17:
“When I have three or four separate text message conversations going, the software gets confused and sends texts to the wrong person some times. You will think that you are typing a response to contact A and then suddenly the contact name at the top switches to contact B.”
Android sending to SMS to unknown contacts, a carrier issue?
There are also reports that New Year greeters are having their SMS sent to wrong contacts that are not even in their Android phone's address book. However there isn't enough evidence behind the latter claim yet so there isn't much to report on at the moment.
Happy New Year folks!
