Asian Games 2010: Medal Tally Day 1
GUANGZHOU, CHINA: 16th Asian Games started off well with remarkable performances from athletes across the World. According to the latest reports, in the Asian Games 2010 Medal tally, China is on the top with 7 Gold medals in its kitty.
Opening day of the 16th Asian Games witnessed top performances from the competent. India won its first Gold medal in the opening day of the ongoing Asian Games 2010. Srinivasa Rao Valluri emerged on top of the pack in the men’s 56 kg weightlifting event and won gold for India.
Earlier in the day, India had opened their account with silver in the 10m air rifle team event. India fetched 3 medals, including 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals altogether on Day 1. Abhinav Bindra, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput clinched the silver medal for India in the team event. Gagan Narang won the second silver in the 10m Air Rifle individual event.
India finished seventh in the women’s team event of the 10 metre air rifle event. Navyman Omkar Singh finished fifth and qualified for the final of the men’s 50 metre pistol event at the Aoti shooting range.
The Chinese team that included Jikang Yu, Qinan Zhu and Yifei Cao clinched the gold in the team event with 1784 points; just one point ahead of India. On the first day, the Chinese team has managed to win 10 medals altogether, winning 7 Gold and 3 Silver medals.
Japan has acquired second position in the list winning 5 medals comprising 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals altogether. Republic of Korea have got 6 medals altogether, including 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals.
With its wonderful performance at the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010 where India clinched 101 medals, we are hoping for an identical medal tally at the Asian Games as well.
