Undercover Boss, Season 2, Episode 13 Sees UniFirst CEO Ronald Croatti Really Struggle Doing Manual Labor

Undercover Boss, Season 2, Episode 13 aired Sunday night on CBS, featuring UniFirst President and CEO Ronald Croatti. The toy train hobbyist puts on a giant wig and mustache to pose as Mike Daniels to check out his company, which provides and cleans uniforms for such companies like Walmart. Season 2, Episode 13 of Undercover Boss saw Ronald Croatti have a lot of trouble with manual labor. Nonetheless, the nice man was very touched by the efforts of his employees.

Ronald Croatti Works with UniFirst Employee Squeeky on Undercover Boss, Season 2, Episode 13

In Owensboro, Kentucky, the CEO works with Dee Dee of the Sew/Seal Department, whose employees get incentives for their productivity. Croatti really has trouble sewing the name patches on the shirts, and Dee Dee said he "sucked." Dee Dee wants to go to college, but work and raising children interfere. She wants to be a clinical therapist, but is worried about the inflexible six tardies policy per year that are tolerated before one is let go. Family obligations can sometimes cause her to punch in late.

The next job Ronald Croatti does on Season 2, Episode 13 of Undercover Boss is in Sumter, South Carolina. He works with Squeeky, a Shipping Operator, and immediately has trouble folding aprons. When the head honcho tries to put the transparent covering on the uniforms, he's utterly slow, and prefers working at the sorter. Squeeky is about to get married, and like the previous owners (UniFirst took it over years earlier) because she felt more appreciated.

Oklahoma City Boss suits up for undercover job

The president and CEO of UniFirst Corp. went undercover as an Oklahoma City employee recently as part of a television show.

Ronald Croatti will be featured on the CBS show “Undercover Boss,” which airs at 8 p.m. tonight.
UniFirst's industrial laundry facility in Oklahoma City was among places he worked in disguise. The Massachusetts-based company supplies and cleans uniforms, work wear and protective clothing for businesses across North America.

In a phone interview with The Oklahoman, Croatti said he worked in Oklahoma City for two days. The plant employs about 100 people.

“I took it as a great opportunity,” Croatti said. “When you are CEO of a company and visit locations, you get a dog-and-pony show. Here was the opportunity to go in disguise and verify our family culture, systems and procedures.”

A video preview of the show is on the company's website. It shows Croatti wearing a gray wig and fake mustache as he struggles to load industrial washing machines and press uniforms.

“It's one thing to observe someone working,” Croatti said. “It's another thing to do the job.”

Tony Jones of Oklahoma City is featured on the show as he tries to help Croatti learn the ropes.
He even jokes in one scene that it's OK if Croatti — who he knew as “Mike” — loses an arm in a washer because he's got another one.

“I was just joking,” Jones said. “He was doing the best he could. He was kind of slow, but he hung in there.”
Jones, 51, has worked for UniFirst for seven months and said he's happy with his job.

He had no idea about Croatti's true identity until he traveled to the company's headquarters. How did Jones react?
“You got me,” Jones recalled he said. “You got me.”

Croatti said workers like Jones take great pride in their jobs and want customers to be happy. Croatti was paired with employees who TV show producers believed had compelling personal stories.

“It's not only the jobs, it's getting to know the people,” he said.

“Everybody has some sort of issues to deal with. We are a family and we try to help these people as much as we can as a corporation.”

The Oklahoma City plant opened two years ago east of downtown, but UniFirst has served the Oklahoma City market for two decades.

The company also has a laundry facility in Tulsa that employs about 140 people.
