The NFL Network recently unveiled its NFL Top 100 Players List, a compilation that can lead to one thing and one thing only: Endless debate.
In fact, the debate has already begun. The network revealed its top 10 in two different formats: One selected by a panel of so-called experts and the other voted on by fans, according to a CBS Sports report.
The differences between the two are striking. And only highlight the inexact science that is naming the 10 best players ever in a sport that has seen hundreds of thousands.

The NFL Network is no stranger to lists, having created the weekly Top 10 show that highlights a list of some kind from league history. But the new NFL Top 100 Players list is the ultimate debate-starter, and the most frustrating, as well, because there's simply no way to quantify anything.
If your buddy believes Joe Namath is the best quarterback ever, there's nothing you can do about it. No amount of arguing is going to change his mind. It's like a political election: People's minds are already made up.
And the list will do little but ignite battles between debaters all over the place. Which, we suppose, is the ultimate idea behind the list. But it can cause just as many headaches as it can harmony.
